Sometimes，I am very sad that even people who do science are quite unscientific in their thinking and in their other actions-not what they are doing in the laboratories but how they live at home or their attitudes towards other people.Now，for India to become what we want it to become with a modern，rational society and firmly based on what is good in our ancient tradition and in our soil，for this we have to have a thinking public，thinking young women who are not content to accept what comes from any part of the world but are willing to listen to it，to analyze it and to decide whether it is to be accepted or whether it is to be thrown out and this is the sort of education which we want，which enables our young people to adjust to this changing world and to be able to contribute to it.
Some people think that only by taking up very high jobs，you are doing something important or you are doing national service.But we all know that the most complex machinery will be ineffective if one small screw is not working as it should and that screw is just as important as any big part.It is the same in national life.There is no job that is too small；there is no person who is too small.Everybody has something to do.And if he or she does it well，then the country will run well.
So，I hope that all of you who have this great advantage of education will not only do whatever work you are doing keeping the national interests in view，but you will make your own contribution to creating peace and harmony，to bringing beauty in the lives of our people and our country.I think this is the special responsibility of the women of India.We want to do a great deal for our country，but we have never regarded India as isolated from the rest of the world.What we want to do is to make a better world.So we have to see India’s problems in the perspective of the larger world problems.

而现在，我们已获得了受教育的权利，整个国家对关于社会或者青少年是否需要进行争论。我是一直坚信教育是最重要改革的人之一，但我也不认为现在的教育一切都是坏的。现在的教育也培养出了大批好的男性和女性，特别是为全世界乃至最富有的国家提供了不同领域的科学家和专家。许多的年轻人到国外谋生，是因为他们可以从那里得到较高的薪水和更好的工作。
我们的国家也是一个非常富足的国家。有很强的文化底蕴，很多古老的传统，一些古老又现代的传统。当然，其中也不乏很多不足的地方和不良的社会现实，比如说迷信，虽然这样的文化已经延续很久了，它们不仅遮挡了古代思想的永恒价值的光彩。更让生活贫困的人们信奉迷信思想，成为阻挡万千男孩和女孩成长的东西。现在这些不好的东西不得不被我们摒弃，那也正是我们自独立以来一直坚持的事情。
在我看来，我们有很多的缺陷，无论是政府还是社会，这些都是由于传统造成的，因为在我看来，并不是所有的传统都是好的，现在受过教育的妇女们的最大的责任之一就是要中和我们古老传统中有价值和永恒的东西与当代思想中好的东西。所有现代的思想也不是都是好的，就像老的思想也不都是坏的一样的。我们不得不做出决定，不是一次或许是每周，每月，都要决定哪些新鲜事物对于我们国家来说是有益的，让我们的社会可以传承并铭记下来。为了赶时髦，很多人改变了服装款式或者说话的方式，以及行为习惯。其实那不是真正的时髦，那只是肤浅的时代的产物。
例如你不能简单地续留长发，因为在村里你很难坚持每天洗头，所以你引领另一种潮流，一种特殊的生活。你的服饰，你的一切都不得不去适应那种生活。如果你想生活得更好的话。你去村里，介意衣服会脏，你就不能成为一名好的工人。我们只能忽略掉这一切。那就是为什么渐渐地衣服的样式在乡村发生了变化。是适应生活方式还是我们需要？如果是前者的话，也许我们会接受某一部分，不仅仅对在村里生活人这样做是有益的，更有另外一个目的，穿什么并不重要，重要的是我们在想什么。
有时候，那些科学家们的思想并不是很科学，在他们日常的行为中——不是他们在实验室的行为，而是他们在家中的行为或者对他人的态度。现在的印度已成为我们所希望的现代国家和合理的社会，这固然是基于我们的古老传统，这个土地的优秀精神，更是我们拥有了更为广泛的思维方式——承认女性并不是一味顺从，也可以接受来自世界的内容，她们愿意倾听、分析和决定哪些应该接受，哪些应该摒弃，这就是我们真正想要的教育，能让年轻人们去自己判断这个社会的变化，并自己决定为社会奉献的方式。
有些人认为需要靠位高权重的人，或者是那些成就大事的人，或为国家服务的人。事实上我们知道多数复杂的政府机关是无法有效解决小的问题，因为政府员工也如同大部分人那样不能有效地完成工作，国家管理亦是如此。是否是在职的公务员不重要，没有人是渺小的。每个人都有自己的事情要做，如果他或她能做好，这个国家就会正常运行。
所以，我希望你们这些受过教育的，拥有这么大优势的人，不要只是注重国家利润，更要为创造和谐社会做出贡献，为人民群众带来美丽的生活。我认为这是印度妇女的特殊责任。我们都要为我们的国家做出贡献，但是我们不认为印度与世界是相分离的，所以我们也要为创造美好世界而努力，用更大的世界观来看待印度问题。
·It has a lot of bad things too and some of the bad things are in the society-superstition，which has grown over the years and which sometimes clouds over the shining brightness of ancient thought and values，eternal values.Then，of course，there is the physical poverty of large numbers of our people.That is something which is ugly and that hampers the growth of millions of young boys and girls.Now，all these bad things we have to fight against and that is what we are doing since Independence.

全球妇女的现状
国际妇女节不仅仅是一个官方的节日，同时也是一个真正的时机去歌颂妇女、赞扬她们为国家的发展做出不可缺少的贡献。大多数国家还未实现男女平等，歧视妇女和对妇女施暴的行为在世界各地还普遍存在。
在世界各地，妇女继续遭受暴力，只是因为她们是女性。她们被轮奸或被虐待。她们由于某种荣誉、嫁妆、重男轻女的思想，甚至是因为要求注射疫苗或要求进行基础教育而遭受杀害和摧残。妇女也是武装冲突中专门被打击的对象。
当战争结束时，妇女基本上会从和平程序的谈判桌上消失，也没有在国家恢复和建设中出现。妇女参与政治和经济决策的程度在每个国家不尽相同，但在各个方面都需要迈出一大步以确保所有社会可以充分利用女性的潜力。
妇女并不是少数，也不是弱势群体。妇女占人类总数的一半，如毛泽东先生所说，她们撑起了半边天。在人类生活的地球上，她们在学校教学，在医院工作，她们经营我们的农场和工厂，照顾我们的孩子和老人。经济、社会、文化或宗教的观点不能被解释为否定妇女权利。
