威廉·亚历山大William Alexander (1567？-1640)，苏格兰宫廷诗人，曾经就读于格拉斯哥大学和莱顿大学。他的作品包括十四行诗集《奥罗拉》，悲剧《达利斯》《克罗色斯》《亚历山大》和《朱利斯·恺撒》，还有史诗《末日》。
哦，如果你知道如何伤害自己，
预知幸福，打乱我的平静，
你胸中的冰便即将融化，

哦，如果你的骄傲不能阻止快乐，

O if thou knew’st how thou thyself dost harm，
And dost prejudge thy bliss， and spoil my rest；
Then thou would’st melt the ice out of thy breast
And thy relenting heart would kindly warm.
O if thy pride did not our joys controul，
What world of loving wonders should’st thou see！
For if I saw thee once transform’d in me，
Then in thy bosom I would pour my soul；
Then all my thoughts should in thy visage shine，
And if that aught mischanced thou should’st not moan
Nor bear the burthen of thy griefs alone；
No， I would have my share in what were thine：
And whilst we thus should make our sorrows one，
This happy harmony would make them none.
作品赏析
